About
Mapelis started the way most things worth doing start — with a frustration and a refusal to settle.
I am the founder of Mapelis Skincare. By nature I am someone who makes things with his hands. I have built houses, done woodwork and tackled more renovations than I can count. If something can be understood, taken apart and made better — that is where I want to be.
So when I looked at what was available in natural skincare and decided it was not good enough — I did not just walk away frustrated. I went back to first principles.
What I brought to the workbench was not a beauty industry background. It was a Chemical Engineer's understanding of chemistry and formulation, and discipline for building something that lasts and the hands of someone who has spent a lifetime making things from scratch.
Most people know me from a different world entirely. I have spent years in the mortgage and finance industry — a world built on precision, trust and getting the details exactly right. Numbers have to add up. Documents have to be accurate. There is no room for approximation when someone's home is on the line.
Those same values followed me to the workbench. Formulation is not guesswork. Every ingredient is weighed to the gram. Every batch is pH tested. Every formula is documented and reproducible. The discipline I developed in finance is the same discipline that goes into every bottle of Mapelis.
The Problem I Could Not Ignore
Natural skincare should be simple. Botanically derived ingredients. No synthetic fragrance masking what is underneath. No silicones faking a texture that is not really there. No long list of ingredients that nobody can pronounce and nobody has properly explained.
What I found instead was compromise after compromise. Products that called themselves natural but were full of ingredients that had no business being on skin. Formulas built around marketing claims rather than ingredient science. Price points that suggested premium quality but delivered nothing of the kind.
I decided to do something about it.
Back to the Workbench
I applied everything I know about chemistry, formulation and process to one of the most personal things a person puts on their skin every single day.
I taught myself cosmetic chemistry not as a hobby but as a discipline. The science of emulsions. The behaviour of botanical oils and plant extracts on skin. The art of natural preservation. The precise measurement, temperature control and pH testing that separates a professional formula from a kitchen experiment.
The same rigour I applied to engineering. The same patience I bring to cooking a meal from scratch. The same attention to detail I use when building something with my hands.
Dozens of test batches. Hundreds of hours of formulation research. Countless adjustments to get the texture, the feel and the performance exactly right.
Every formula started with one question — would I put this on my own skin every single day? If the answer was anything less than an immediate yes — back to the workbench.
What We Built
The result is Mapelis. Every ingredient was chosen deliberately — for what it actually does on skin not how it looks on a label. Every batch is made by hand with the same care I bring to everything I build.
What We Stand For
No synthetic fragrance. No parabens. No silicones. No mineral oil. No formaldehyde releasers. No artificial colorants. No fillers. Nothing that does not earn its place in the formula.
Something Worth Saying
I am often the only man in the room at a craft market or skincare conversation. People notice. Some are surprised.
I am not.
Good chemistry has no gender. Healthy skin has no gender. The desire to know exactly what is going on your body and trust every ingredient in the formula — that has no gender either.
I started Mapelis because I believed natural skincare could be done better. I make it because I genuinely care about every batch that leaves this workbench.
That is the only reason that matters.
Vegan. Cruelty Free. Made by hand in Canada.
The Mapelis Promise
Every bottle of Mapelis starts the same way — with a scale, a thermometer and a beaker of carefully chosen ingredients on a workbench in Hamilton, Ontario.
It ends the same way too — with a product we are genuinely proud of. One that we would use ourselves. One that earns its place in your routine not because of clever marketing but because of what is actually inside.
Nothing synthetic. Nothing hidden.
That is the Mapelis promise.
